When I think of the country I think of hay, I think of sweet honey, I think of familiar places and I think of my Mother.
Genet reminds me of the country.
I picked Genet absolute out yesterday (I love a challenge) and I placed it with Hay absolute.
I'm still not sure though if they are going to be OK together, it seems that a lot of the time my nose is picking out similarities in essences, for example the fact that Genet has hay like notes and I chose Hay absolute to go with it in an accord. I'm thinking maybe that's just too much hay?
Here are some observations I made as I was looking for other essences to go in the blend.
Geranium and Genet- not compatible at all- a big NO!
Cardamom absolute with Genet- not compatible with Genet- another big fat NO!
Geranium and Cardamom-sort of compatible (but that's another blend)
Cannabis tincture and Genet-Another NO!
Geranium and Cannabis Tincture- NO! NO!
Clove and Genet- SO NO!
Clove and Geranium-YES! (but no good to me here)
Genet and Pink Lotus-YES!
Lavender absolute and Genet-Yes!
Pink Lotus and Lavender Absolute-NO!
Boronia and Genet- NO!
Boronia and Pink Lotus-NO!
This is where it got interesting...
Boronia and Hay-YES! A chocolaty accord (have to remember this one)
Boronia and Cannabis Tincture-YES! A fresh musky floral accord. (and this one is gorgeous)
Boronia and Cardamom-YES! A deep spicy sweet accord (another day)
Well back to my GenetGenet and Chamomile-YES!
Chamomile and Pink Lotus- NO!
Genet and Tarragon-YES!
Pink Lotus and Tarragon-YES!
Hay and Tarragon-YES!
Hay and Vertiver-YES!
Genet and Vertiver-YES!
Africa Stone and Vertiver-YES!
Africa Stone and Hay-YES!
Africa Stone and Genet-YES!
Africa Stone and Pink lotus-YES!
Africa Stone and Tarragon-YES!
THE LIST GOES ON!Pink Pepper and Genet-YES!
Pink Pepper and Hay-YES!
Pink pepper and Vetivert YES!
Pink Pepper and Africa Stone-YES!
Pink Pepper and Tarragon-YES!
Wild Orange went with everything very well
Fir Needle did NOT!
So my first blend went something like this: Wild orange, Pink Peppercorn and Juniper Berry (Juniper seemed to do nice things to the Genet and the Pink Lotus), Tarragon, Genet, Pink Lotus, Hay Absolute, Vetiver, Africa Stone Tincture....It stinks!
The second blend was the same but changing the amounts and tweaking plus a little Lime to lift the top notes...and that stinks.
The third blend I changed the ratios again and added a little Rose, Cassie and Beeswax absolutes, and guess what? That stinks too!
The great thing here is that I am not really trying to make a perfume. I am experimenting and playing and learning and the name of this game is "how stinky can I make it?" Hay Hay Hay!
